Audience Research - Questionnaire

CD Cover Dimensions

I have now reasearch the codes and conventions for CD covers, therefore I can now start to create my CD cover. Firstly, I need to know the dimensions of the different covers which I need to create. Below are some examples which give me an idea of the dimensions that I need to follow.

Reasearch into Similar Media Texts - CD Insides

Now that I know the codes and conventions of the Cd Front and Back covers, I now need to research and find the codes and conventions of the inside covers of the CD.

Research into Similar Media Texts - CD Back Covers

Now that I have researched and have found the codes and conventions of CD front covers, I now need to research into the codes and conventions of CD back covers. To do this I will need to look at similar media texts to find these conventions.

The first back cover I shall  look at shall be the back of Bon Jovi's Slippery When Wet. The back of this album is rather plain which just a solid coloured background. The title of the artist and album are clearly shown, with the tracks within the album listed below, numbered in the order which they arrive in the album. Along with each track name, the length of the song is also listed alongside the track. Also in small print at the bottom, the production company name along with the distributors.

The next back cover that I shall research is The Beatles' Abbey Road. On this back cover, the artist's name and the album title are shown. The background used relates to the front cover that I researched previously, being the location of Abbey Road. The background shows the actual street name, with a person walking by, which would happen in real life.

Reasearch into Similar Media Texts - CD Front Covers

For my first task, I am going to create the album cover for a band. To do this, I need to look at the codes and conventions of music album covers to allow me to know the conventions that I need to follow.

This album cover by Bon Jovi shows the artist name at the top of the cover, being fairly predominant. The title of the album is also shown, below the artist name. On this album cover, the title tries to join in with the background within the cover, therefore being more subtle than the artist name. The background on the album cover is quite plain and not that exciting, yet with the album title merging into the background, this makes the cover more interesting.
As now I have researched one album cover, I need to look at some more covers to see if the codes and conventions are the same.

This is the album cover for The Beatles's Abby Road. This album cover doesn't follow the conventions which I saw in my previous research. On this front cover, the title of the album and the name of the band aren't shown, with only the background image being shown. Although the image does show the members of the band, which is different to the previous CD cover I researched.

I have now researched two CD covers which are different to each other, showing me the wide range of codes and conventions there are for CD covers. Therefore I shall continue to research into similar media texts to find the typical codes and conventions.

The next album front cover that I shall look at is Devil's Gun's album Raising the Beast. The album cover does contain both the artists name and the album title.

The fourth album cover I shall look at is from a multiple CD album from Michael Jackson, History.
